about samuelson outfitters
It’s a family affair going back to the 1940’s. Richard (Dick Sr.) Samuelson started out fishing in the area post WWII, bringing his son, Ray D “Sonny” and his friends into the area. Sonny found himself in the woods more than anywhere else and his passion for sharing it with others became very apparent as his buddies thought he was such a great host he should make a business out of it. His magnetic personality, knack for hospitality, horsemanship and knowledge of the area made for a great start. Commercially started in 1967, Sonny started out by providing quality horseback lead hunts. In 1987, son Richard (Dick Jr.) and Cathy Samuelson took over the business from Sonny. Honing in their horse packing techniques, dialing in the camp amenities and improving the sleeping tents helped the business grow.
Today their son Ehren is running the business. A younger generation of new ideas have been implemented by Ehren and his wife, Abbey. Packing supplies for progressive hiking groups, working with Wounded Vets, hosting ladies Wilderness Yoga Retreats, and family day rides. They are now thrilled to welcome their own kids; Atlas and little girl “Sonny” into the backcountry.
Based in beautiful Grand County, Colorado, Samuelson Outfitters is a third-generation business offering world-class guided deer and elk hunting packages in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests. At the top of the central Rocky Mountains, The Troublesome Basin is one of the most beautiful places in the country’s most scenic state and we are here to offer a truly authentic hunting experience.
Offering rifle, archery and muzzle loading hunts, drop camps and pack services. Day rides and summer pack trips became regular fare, along with the fall hunting opportunities.
We are known for getting our hunters into premium high country game areas. Our guides strategically work areas with you for the optimum opportunity in acquiring your game. Our camp hands do all those chores and these characters will work to keep you in good spirits and laughing at the same time. Our cooks provide a variety of hearty home cooked meals. We provide creature comforts to ensure you sleep and eat well while in the woods.
